What Makes a Good Friend? by Nettie Bozanich
I have been struggling with the following question: What makes a good friend? A certainly viable answer is someone who is caring, patient, kind, and accepting. But somehow, I was not satisfied with that answer. It was too plain and did not go to the heart of why some friendships last and others die. I needed more so I searched and waited for an answer.

In the thinking process, I considered why I stopped speaking to some friends or they stopped speaking to me....

How to Find Really Good, Long-Lasting Friends by Dick Wulf
Most of the people you will call "friends" will only be acquaintances. You can call them friends because they are friendly to you. However, these people will not necessarily be those you enjoy doing things with as companions.

You will most likely find a small group of people with whom you like to do things in the areas of your interests. There are lots of things that we do not like doing alone. Some thing...

It is important to align yourself with what I call OQP, Only Quality People. Making new friends, colleagues and contacts by Jane-Michèle Clark
I had a middle school teacher who used to say, “If you want to have a friend, be a friend”. When you’re new in town, this may seem like useless advice, because you feel like you don’t have anyone with whom you can try to be friends with in the in first place. Obviously, the first step is to meet people who have things in common with you. ...

True friends are not dream-slashers by David Leonhardt
Choose friends wisely, the portrait they paint
Is who you are and who you ain't.
Friendship is life's great support
When friends are of the right sort.
For all your dreams do they make room,
Or bring you down with doom and gloom?
You will know a friendship is true
When it brings out the best in you.

People Need People by Patti Chadwick
"Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up." Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

From the beginning of time, God designed us to need other people. He made it clear that it is not good for His children to be alone. This is one reason he put us in families. We need each other. We need someone to care about what happens to us; someone to love and cherish us. And we need someone to love and cherish. Being a part of a family gives us built in belonging. ...

Resolving Conflict by Les Brown
I've done a lot of research on the topic of conflict resolution in recent months, and here are a few tips I've come up with for resolving conflict in your workplace and professional life (that can also be applied to your personal life):

Don't be afraid of conflict. Too many of us become agitated when we encounter conflict or disagreement out of concern and fear. It's odd when you think about it, because conflict is a part of nature, a part of life. Unless you are a hermit, odds are that conflict is inescapable. ...

Cross-Promoting: Make Friends With Your Competitors by Jenna Glatzer
I was running a big promotion for one of my books, Outwitting Writer’s Block and Other Problems of the Pen, and I needed a way to hit my target market. I run a major online magazine for writers (AbsoluteWrite.com), and although I was friendly with several of the other editors of writers’ sites, I felt a little uncomfortable writing to them to ask if they’d help me announce the promotion. ...
